Overview
- Surgery remains the gold-standard treatment for morbid obesity and diabetes, as well as glycemic control. But the risk and complications of invasive surgery tends to cause patient stress, both physiological and psychological.
- Reduce intestinal secretion and inhibit absorption to reduce both blood sugar and weight.
- Enhance patient safety, mitigate complications, keep blood sugar under control, and lower HbA1c.
Development Process
Over the course of this project under the Applied Research Incubation Program, the team completed a prototype, conducted material homogeneity analysis, established an animal test model and verified its safety, and applied for a patent in Europe. The said animal test proved this duodenum barrier implant’s effectiveness in keeping blood sugar under control and lowering HbA1c without causing liver abscess and rejection reaction, thereby establishing its clinical viability and pointing to a rosy future for product development. Also conducted were spin-in consultations and fundraising.
