Device for Rapid Automatic Isolation of Adipose-Derived Stem Cells

Ho Mei-ling, Kaohsiung Medical University
Year 2017Year Period:2017-01-11 to 2018-03-31

Overview

ul class="noneStyle">

  • Adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs), a potential source of somatic stem cells or precursor cells, can be used to treat chronic wounds and tissue deficiency. As things stand, however, the complex process of isolating ASCs easily leads to material contamination.
  • The team has thus developed a sterile, sealed, and adjustable device for isolating ASCs. ASC isolation and purification can be completed in two hours.
  • In a single surgery, purified ASCs can be applied to treatment without in vitro expansion, thereby preventing viral or bacterial contamination.

Development Process

Over the course of this project under the Applied Research Incubation Program, the team completed automation design, integration of control software and operative interface, and an optimal formula for mixing digestive enzymes not harmful to ASCs in a two-hour period. On May 8, 2017, Averstem Therapeutics Co., Ltd. was established.

Milestones

2017
  • Admission to the MOST’s Nursery Program.
  • Forms AVERSTEM THERAPEUTICS CO., LTD.
